SCARBOROUGH Hospital is set to reveal its brand new main reception to visitors and patients for the first time today.
The entrance has undergone a complete transformation and is now lighter, brighter and more spacious.
A new layout will help improve patient flow whilst new facilities include a waiting area, baby changing room and a hand washing station with sink and hand gels – helping promote the importance of good hand hygiene.
The first thing that people will see when they walk in is a new reception and enquiry desk which will be manned during key hours.
The Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) Shop has been extended and now includes a coffee bar with freshly ground coffee and hot chocolate machines alongside an additional seating area with tables, chairs and bar stools. The coffee bar will also serve a selection of hot food including soup, jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches and paninis. Fresh fruit and bakery produce will also be delivered to the shop daily.
James Hayward, director of facilities, said: “We are delighted with results. The main gateway to the hospital has undergone a complete transformation. The interior area has been opened up making it lighter and more airy – proving a better experience and first impression for patients, staff and visitors
“Although the planned completion date for the work was the end of January, we took the opportunity to make additional improvements to the exterior of the front entrance and canopy to avoid disruption at a later point.
“I think that anyone coming through the doors of Scarborough Hospital will agree that has been worth the wait and I would like to thank people for bearing with us whilst this important project was completed.”
Debbie Landray, WRVS service coordinator for North Yorkshire, said: “This is our flagship store for the North Yorkshire hub and we are ecstatic with it. Our volunteers are also really excited to be part of it and have undergone additional training on how to use all the new equipment. We are always looking for volunteers and would love to hear from anyone, young or old, who would like to be part of our team of volunteers here at Scarborough.”
