Help for hospital from Castle club

A MAJOR fundraising drive has been launched by members of Castle Sports and Social Club in Castle Road.

The group is backing a campaign to raise thousands of pounds towards specialist keyhole surgery equipment for Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Committee member Rosie Wetherell wanted to help the cause after seeing a documentary about it on television.

She said: “This is where children from Scarborough tend to go if there’s something radically wrong.

“The hospital has done up one ward but they’re crying out for help. I was in tears by the end of the programme.

“We want to raise as much as possible and every penny will go towards the children.”

Mrs Wetherell is now hoping that every pub and club in Scarborough will get involved by holding their own events. Sports teams for darts, dominoes, snooker and pool are also being encouraged to take part.

Organisers are also asking local companies to donate raffle prizes in support.

A rugby evening will be held at the Castle club on Friday April 1 featuring pie and peas, a speaker and an auction of rugby shirts. For more information call Rosie on (01723) 363965 or go to
