Hit shows set for Spa’s new stage

THE curtain at Scarborough’s newly renovated Spa is set to go up on a bumper season as the venue announces its line-up for the summer.

After a £6.5 million refurbishment the venue will host the return of old favourites and new shows.

This year sees the Cirque Du Ciel - ‘Shanghai’ arrive in Scarborough as part of its UK tour. Direct from China ‘Shanghai’ is set to highlight the Grand Hall’s new staging and lighting with acrobatics, dance, and martial arts.

Also new for this year is I Love the 90’s, headlined by S Club, and featuring members of Five and Scooch.

Europe’s official Elvis champion Rob Kingsley is set to take to the stage for his show A Vision of Elvis, while The Sounds of Burt Bacharach sees the Chris Dean production perform sunny classics from four decades.

A 60’s Reunion Party, featuring Paul Garbutt and Pete Liley, the Tritones and DJ Dave Marshall, has been organised to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Ellie’s Fund.

Tony Peers’ productions are back for a tenth summer season with two brand new shows, including the Summer Spectacular which has become the longest running Summer Show in great Britain, and is a favourite due to its mix of comedy and dance.

Tony Peers Productions’ second summer show is a new musical, ‘Thoroughly Modern Musical’s, featuring music from Cabaret, Evita, Grease and many more hit shows.

This season also sees the return of The Spa Orchestra shows, which will run until September 15 and features music from the UK’s only remaining seaside Orchestra.

The morning shows will be in the Sun Court, while the evening performances will be in the Grand Hall.

Stand up at the Spa returns, which sees four of the best up and coming, as well as established comedians perform every Wednesday evening outside in the Spa Sun Court.

Also making a return for the summer season is Howard Beaumont; King of the Keyboards and Magic Mike’s summer shows.

Entertainment from the 50’s and 60’s is back with Forever in Blue Jeans, while The Magic of Motown celebrates favourites from the 70’s.

Dance Night with Ray Kirk and Dave Clegg is new for this season, unlike the Electric Light Orchestra which will be performing its greatest hits.

Jazz Legend are also returning to perform The Life and Music of Frank Sinatra, and stax legend Steve Cropper is bringing Steve Cropper and the Animals to the Spa.

The season is topped of with the return of the Free Sunday Band Concerts entertaining afternoon audiences.
