Holtby error hands Heslerton dramatic success at Staxton

Five wides off the last ball from Andrew Holtby handed Heslerton a dramatic four-wicket win against title-chasing Staxton in Division A of the AndyHire Evening League.

Staxton posted 121-6, Rob Pinder hitting 37, Dave Morris 34 and Linden Gray 28, Andy Slaughter taking 3-24.

Ryan Hargreaves did his best to halt Heslerton’s reply with 3-33, Rob Middlewood hammering 40 to keep the visitors in the contest.

Heslerton needed six to win off the last ball of the contest and Staxton bowler Holtby slung a wide ball down that went for four, meaning scores were tied.

Toby Sercombe and Dan Jeminson then scampered through for a single off the extra delivery to seal the win.

Filey beat Wykeham by 51 runs to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and stay top of the pile.

Aussie all-rounder Tom Fitzgerald top-scored with 38, Aaron Howard hit 32 and Josh Dawson added 31 in their total of 157-6.

Despite Kev Thompson hitting a defiant 40 in reply, Wykeham fell away to 106-7.

Seamer kept pace with the top three by beating rock-bottom Scalby by seven wickets.

Brett Cunningham hit 34 for Scalby, but Mitch Fisher’s 3-24 helped ensure the visitors could only post 115-6.

Seamer’s reply never looked in danger of faltering, Sam Collinson striking 39 and Craig Baker an unbeaten 35.

Ian Cousins was the star man in Ganton’s six-wicket win against Ebberston.

The veteran all-rounder first took 4-4 to help restrict Ebberston to 112-6, Alex Machen hitting 31.

Cousins then hit 45 to guide Ganton to 113-4.

Cayton and Cloughton continued their march for the top flight with wins in Division B.

Harry Holden (45), Josh McNeil (48) and Adam Robertshaw (30no) in Cayton’s 142-3 in reply to Forge Valley’s 141-8.

Earlier in the game, Christian Reddish had hit a superb 66, James Fox adding 28 as Tom Ward took 3-36.

Cloughton’s charge for promotion was boosted as Seamer B failed to raise a side.

Cloughton B also picked up a win as they beat Scarborough by 25 runs.

Scott Wardman top-scored with 45 in Cloughton’s 157-7, Lewis Taylor also hitting 26 as Brad Milburn took 3-34.

Wardman then took 3-34 as Scarborough were restricted to 132-8, Tom Bussey hitting 48 and Max Rowley 43.

Flixton’s promotion push faltered as they lost out against Sherburn by 10 runs.

Harry Walmsley’s 3-19 looked to have put Flixton in control at the halfway point, Sherburn only posting 101-6 despite 41 from Dan Simpson.

Daley Wharton then took 4-14 to help seal success for Sherburn, Flixton finishing on 91-8.

Staxton B stayed top of the pile in Division C with a five-wicket win at Wykeham B.

Sam Owen hit 39 not out and Tom Poor 36 in Wykeham’s 118-5, before Liam Scott hit 30 to help Staxton to 119-5.

Cameron Anderson hammered 89 to guide Flixton B to victory from a high-scoring game at Scalby B.

Anderson’s 89 helped Flixton to 170-6, Turkish swing specialist Tashken Turan taking 4-67.

Aidan Thomas then hammered 41 and Lee Kerr 30 as Scalby threatened to hunt down their total, but they fell short after needing 20 to win from the last over.

Veteran Adrian Turnbull cracked a superb 70 to help Ebberston B to victory against Muston.

Turnbull’s knock helped his side to 129-4, before Pete Webster’s 4-10 and 5-21 from Tom Holmes saw Muston all out for just 41 in reply.

Eric Hall cracked 88 but couldn’t help Forge Valley B to victory against Snainton.

Hall’s knock helped Snainton to 144 all out, Ben Norman taking 3-24.

Snainton cruised to 145-1 in reply, Matt Davies hitting 65 not out and Michael Kipling 37.

Cayton B stayed in the promotion hunt with victory against Ravenscar.

Paul Miller’s 46 and 29 from Gary Dixon helped Cayton to 129-7, Freddie Barker taking 4-10.

Rich Cooper then top-scored with 38 and Shaun Bayes hit 28, but 4-41 from Matty Micklethwaite helped Cayton restrict the visitors to 128-8, falling one run short.
