CRICKETING legend Sir Ian Botham is to join in a fundraising walk for Scarborough’s Saint Catherine’s Hospice. Delighted organisers have confirmed that Sir Ian will take part in the hospice’s “Walk of the Roses” later this month. The walk, from August 19 to 23, will see fundraisers tackle an 80-mile walk from the hospice to Richmond. Sir Ian has kindly agreed to join them on the final leg of that journey, from Bolton on Swale to Richmond. They will be met in Richmond by fundraisers from Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Preston, Lancashire, who will have walked from their own hospice. Now fundraisers in Scarborough are urging anyone who wants to take part in the walk to register as soon as possible. Director of Funding Development David Marshall, who plans to walk the full 80 miles, said: “It is fantastic news that Sir Ian has agreed to join us on the walk and we are very grateful to him for taking time out of his busy schedule.”
To take part in the Scarborough end of the walk supporters need a registration form, which are available from all hospice shops or by contacting (01723) 378406.
The registration fee is £10 or £5 for children under 16. Young people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on the walk.
