THE St Catherine’s Hospice furniture shop in Scarborough is urgently in need of new volunteers.

The busy shop is currently based in North Marine Road but will soon be relocating to upper Victoria Road.

Shop manager Jo Major said: “We are looking for anyone with good customer service skills, who can spare us as little as an hour a week to come in and help.

“In the first instance they can just come in and meet everyone, have a chat and see what they think.”

The shop sells furniture plus, electrics, bric-a-brac and antiques and is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

She added: “It’s a great place to come and spend some time, a chance to get out of the house and make some new friends.

“We are a really friendly bunch and you get to meet lots of interesting people and to do something worthwhile that really helps the hospice.”

She said it was also an opportunity for volunteers to learn new skills and there is also a possible opportunity to gain an NVQ qualification in Retail.

Hospice retail manager Debbie Jewison said: “We are looking for people from all walks of life – mums who can give us some time while their children are in nursery school or students who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, for example. Anyone who can spare us some time would be doing some real good for the hospice. It’s a fun environment to work in and our volunteers really enjoy it.”
