Since January we have asked you to vote for who you thought should be given the coveted crown of the best gym in the area.

We wanted you to take into consideration what it was that you thought gave your gym the edge, what lifted it above its rivals and gave you what you wanted.

And you did, thanks to the strength of this year’s entrants we’ve had hundreds of votes registered for the gyms that featured in the top 10. But in the end there could be only one winner - and the gym in first place is Hunmanby Hall Golf and Leisure.

Gym manager Katy Cawthorn said: “We’re thrilled! We’re really lucky in that we have a great team here and we’re in a really good spot with views of the golf course.

“The equipment we’ve got is really good and members like the fact that fitness classes are included.”

Katy thanked instructors Jo Rounding and Stephanie Lawson for all their hard work in making the gym such a success.

In second place came the Crown Spa Health Club.

Stuart Russell, health club manager, said: “It’s nice to know that our members rate us. We take customer feedback very seriously and get lots of positive comments.”

The gym in third place was Barons Health and Fitness Centre, based at Scarborough Rugby Club in Scalby Road.

Gym manager Paul White said: “We’re really chuffed that our members have gone out and voted for us.

“It’s very important to us that our members are happy.

“I’d like to thank the instructors and all the team at Barons as it’s been a real team effort.”

Paul added that the gym has gone from strength to strength since it had a huge extension last year, with the addition of a new fitness class studio.

The club is also now the base of Scarborough Olympic Weightlifting Club.

The Scarborough News wishes to thank all the gyms that participated and hope that they all enter again next year to see if they can win in 2017.
