Two teams took turns from 9am on the Saturday morning to sing Hymns Old and New, with the choir working their way through an estimated 200 hymns throughout the day.

Church building project manager Trevor King said: “We’re thrilled with how it went. I thought we would raise around £600 but to top £1,600 is an amazing effort. We want to thank everybody who took part – whether it was our singers, the four pianists, the hard-working team who provided the refreshments or the people who turned up to listen.”

The funds raised will support plans to build an extension to the church, costing £225,000.
