Police in Scarborough have arrested a 19-year-old local man in connection with a knife-point robbery at a town centre market stall.
The incident occurred at Market Vaults, St Helen’s Square, at about 12.25pm on Saturday (August 2).
It is alleged that the suspect, who was wearing a mask, produced a knife and made demands for money from the till.
However, the member of staff refused and pulled the mask from the suspect’s face and tried to grab the knife which resulted in a minor cut to her hand. She did not require medical treatment.
The suspect made off on foot but was pursued by members of the public.
Officers were alerted to the scene and made an arrest on Foreshore Road at 12.37pm.
Both the knife and mask have been recovered by officers as part of the ongoing enquiries.
No cash or goods are believed to have been taken in the incident.
The suspect remains in police custody for questioning.
