Although the result went against us on Saturday, there were plenty of positives especially the display of two of our new signings, Loni Loni and Graeme Hogg.
Both of them were the main reason we created the succession of chances to get some points on Saturday, we created more than enough to win the game comfortably.
They will both be strong players for us this season in Yorkshire One and with other players to come in as well there is a lot more to come from this team.
If we had been playing our first pre-season game of the season on Saturday I would have been more than happy with the overall team performance, but I was disappointed to miss out on league points, we should be winning at Selby.
The fact we had a two-week gap between games meant this was the first occasion when all these players had lined up together for the club, and over the next few weeks more players will be coming so there will be a lot of competition for places, which is always healthy.
Our next challenge sees us play at home against York on Saturday afternoon in a local derby clash at Silver Royd, so we will need to improve quickly.
As far as York are concerned they are a fairly physical team, and it will be interesting to see who they have recruited over the summer.
Their catch and drive is a useful weapon that they utilise, but if we create as many chances as we did on Saturday and take half of them then we should be able to give any team problems in this league.
South African Ethynne Terblanche, who has returned to the club this season, will come into the reckoning for the game this weekend, and it looks like Matty Else will slot into the second row, with Mikey Readman being banned for his sending-off at Selby.
The return of Matty Jones to the club later this month is also great news as he is a popular lad, a good player and most importantly a good leader, which is something we maybe missed on Saturday.
