We’re now approaching the end of another Yorkshire One campaign, and one thing stands out for me looking back.
Our mentality as a squad has changed, we have a much better team spirit in the camp and our approach to games has improved
That is down to and very much driven by our captain Matty Jones.
Matty really does lead from the front at the club and the guys all follow him too.
We have more steel throughout the team now and that’s what we have been missing in recent years.
It is so important that we build on that though.
Yes, we won’t finish in the top two now, which is disappointing for me, but there is definitely enough potential here to mount a challenge to get out of this division going forward and that’s what we need to be striving towards.
We have three games left and it’s crucial we finish the season as strongly as possible.
It is incredibly frustrating looking back over the course of the season, because you can almost point to three or four games that have cost us a place in behind Bridlington at the top of the table.
West Leeds came to Silver Royd and nicked it by two points, Brid beat us with the last play of the game and we just couldn’t get over the line against York, which could’ve really propelled us up towards the top two.
I am clearly disappointed that we’re not pushing for promotion this season, but we have a good team, and with the right recruitment and that extra five or 10% commitment to training from the guys, we can put something together going forward.
Our superb 69-20 win against a tough Old Brodleians side on Saturday can be a great platform for us to finish the season in a positive manner.
It was a superb team performance, everyone played well and the team worked incredibly hard for each other.
That carries us into our last three games of the season, starting with a trip to Heath this weekend and then finishing things off with home games against Hullensians and Selby.
We need to play well to beat Heath, but I’m confident we will do just that.
