Let’s go bananas about kids’ healthy eating

The story of the hungry caterpillar went down a treat with children at Bairnswood Nursery when they received a lesson about healthy eating.

The lesson was delivered by Sainsbury’s PR and community coordinator Fiona Daplyn, who visited the nursery as part of her tour of schools and nurseries in the Scarborough area.

Fiona’s job is all part of the supermarket’s drive to spread the message about the benefits of eating our fruit and vegetables,

Fiona said: “I usually tell the story of the hungry caterpillar which is popular with children because they love the way it eats through the different fruits.”

After the story the children were allowed to play with some knitted fruit.

They also practised their culinary skills in making a fruit salad.

The Sainsbury’s store in Falsgrave Road has recently undergone a £12 million refurbishment which took almost a year to complete. Re-opening in November last year, the new store, of 33,900 square feet, has created a total of 120 new jobs.
