A huge marrow has been dissected by a Scarborough surgeon has part of an annual community fundraising event.
The “Marrow on Tour” was organised by retired blacksmith Alan Readman in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.
The giant gourd, grown by Ken Gill, was taken round a number of pubs and customers were asked to guess how many seeds were inside.
The “Seed Search”, which took place at The Oakwheel in Burniston, determined that there were 657 seeds in the marrow.
Four people were declared joint winners after guessing that there were 666 seeds inside. They were Julie Belt from the Red Lion, Slim from the Three Jolly Sailors, Josie from the Rosette and Nat Fewster, also from the Rosette.
A presentation evening will be held at the Rosette with a raffle on December 6 at 8pm.
Mr Readman said: “We’re still collecting in money but we’ve raised £230 so far, so a big thank you to everyone for their support.”
