Letter: Council needs to hire expert on fracking

In response to the comments from Lorraine Allanson of Ryedale Against Anti-Social Protestors in relation to the extraordinary meeting at Ryedale District Council.
This plan, if approved, will be with us for the next 20 years. This plan, if approved, will be with us for the next 20 years.

Her point that they do not want council tax money wasted (in hiring a specialist consultant for the examination in public of the minerals and waste joint plan) and are instead against it, I think is rather short-sighted. This plan, if approved, will be with us for the next 20 years.

Do we really want the industry to decide how close fracking can operate next to our schools, along with all the other loosening of the plan they will be seeking to do without being seriously challenged?

The industry will have top QCs all over this, Ryedale Council sold us short.
