Letter: Government's policies voted for by majority
It seemed rather odd for Cllr Broadbent to write that 'most of the country is still suffering from the enforced austerity cuts introduced by the Conservative government.'
The councillor knows fine well that we had five years of a Conservative-led coalition pursing an economic policy of retrenchment, after which there was a general election where the British people returned a majority Conservative government.
If “most” British people were suffering why was this not reflected at the ballot-box? The recent result in Copeland now means that the Labour Party has fewer parliamentary seats than it had after Mr Miliband’s disastrous election performance in 2015.
I personally think that most Britons recognise the need to pursue sensible economic policies that ensure we live within our means and avoid saddling future generations with crippling levels of debt.
