Letter: Just faster to a long queue?

I realise I am probably in the minority but I cannot understand why making the A64 a dual carriageway from York to Scarborough will bring huge rewards to coastal businesses.
How will reaching these traffic jams in a faster time possibly help anyone? How will reaching these traffic jams in a faster time possibly help anyone?

All the villages which border the present A64 will benefit hugely from the sheer relief of traffic congestion and the accompanying appalling pollution, this is not in doubt, but the claim that businesses will receive huge benefits from so-called better access is misleading.

Scarborough has no ring roads; Scarborough has no road tunnels; Scarborough has no fly-overs. Traffic from York and the West Riding has only two access roads – the A64 Seamer road and the A165 Filey road.

To journey from west Scarborough to east Scarborough means you have to drive all through the town. Scarborough needs better local road networks before embarking on major projects.

An A64 full dual carriageway will only ensure that you arrive at a huge traffic jam earlier than now.

Indeed, trading estates outside the Scarborough boundary could be the only ones to see benefits from better access.

The recent new road which by-passes Osgodby must have been very welcomed by the residents but for easing other traffic it is a failure.

Even with very light traffic on this road, you come to the roundabout at the Osgodby end and meet a queue of traffic all the way into Scarborough and beyond. Similarly, even in winter, Seamer road has traffic queueing all the way to the Eastfield roundabout.

How will reaching these traffic jams in a faster time possibly help anyone?
