German supermarket chain Lidl has revealed details of its new store which it hopes to build on the former McCain Stadium site.

The plans are due to go on display on Friday at Falsgrave Community Resource Centre in Seamer Road alongside the designs for the Weaponness Leisure Village.

Lidl have bought part of the stadium site, the money from the sale will be used to provide the new football stadium and public swimming pool at Weaponness.

The plans include:

• A foodstore with a net sales area of 1,286m².

• In-store bakery and full range of products.

• Free customer car park with 99 spaces.

• Creation of up to 30 full and part-time positions.

There has been no indication of any changes that will be required to Seamer Road to entry the site. A number of people contacted The Scarborough News concerned that traffic lights on the main artery into town would cause major disruption.

The consultation will be open Friday from 4pm until 8pm and from 10am until 2.30pm on Saturday.
