FOUR local charities have benefited from a fundraising show by a Scarborough entertainment group.

Shine 2011 was organised by Stagecoach Scarborough and took place at the Spa theatre in July.

After the cheques were presented show producer Nicky Sweeney-Chisholm said: “It was a fantastic show and a great opportunity for my students to perform in the Spa Theatre alongside professionals and also to raise money for local charities.

“I launched Shine in 2009 with the hope that we can donate money to different local charities every year if it’s successful – so far it’s worked.

“Special thanks must also go to everyone involved in the production from on stage to all the hard work that was put into it all behind the scenes.”

In July more than 90 students took part in the show, alongside professional performers, and the event compared by Paul Ludlow who was the lead singer from the Spa summer season.

Nicky added that the show was very well received and cash was donated to the following local charities:

l Scarborough YMCA

l Scarborough RSPCA

l Scarborough Basics Plus.

Money was also donated to the Macmillian Wolds Ward, at Bridlington Hospital, and the donation was in memory of popular local performer and comedian Dave Peters.

Stagecoach Scarborough is now enrolling new students for its autumn 2011 term.
