“Debbie and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and asks that their privacy be respected at this sad time.”

Paul Daniels has performed across the Yorkshire Coast since the 1970s and performed at Bridlington's pantomime of Cinderella in 2008.

Tony Peers, a Scarborough businessman and entertainer, has met Mr Daniels a few times over the years.

He said: "I think he is yet another great loss from the live entertainment industry. I would say he was probably one of Britain's greatest magicians."

Mr Daniels was a performer with a magic touch who entertained TV audiences for decades.

The Paul Daniels Magic Show regularly attracted 15 million viewers in the UK and was sold to 43 countries.

One of the most popular magicians of the 20th century, his success was unrivalled in the magic and entertainment world.

Mr Daniels was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour when he fell at home in February and he was rushed to hospital.

McGee wrote on Twitter: “I wish I could answer all your wonderful messages individually but there are so many. They are all appreciated so much.

“Paul and I had no (idea) of how people felt. Truly amazing. Thank you.”
