An exciting wave of plans for the promotion of Yorkshire will be unveiled in Scarborough next month.
Welcome to Yorkshire will host the Y 15 event – the biggest tourism conference in the UK – where new campaigns, initiatives and projects will be unveiled at Scarborough Spa.
The announcements are being kept under wraps, but the event will see Welcome to Yorkshire’s entry for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show launched.
Around 1,000 people will attend the event on March 18. Scarborough has been chosen due to the fact it will host the finish of the first stage of the Tour de Yorkshire on May 1.
Y 15 will run like a live TV show and will hosted by the BBC’s snooker presenter Rob Walker.
It will feature star guests, with previous events having welcomed Yorkshire celebs ranging from Last Tango in Halifax star Dean Andrews to Paralympic superstar Hannah Cockroft MBE and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
Janet Deacon, North Yorkshire area director for Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the UK’s biggest tourism conference in Scarborough, especially in 2015 when the town will welcome the exciting new Tour de Yorkshire.
“It is a unique opportunity for anyone involved in the tourism industry in this region to find out what’s planned for the year ahead, and to network with others.”
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, added: “Yorkshire’s profile as a destination has never been higher, so it is absolutely essential that together as a county we take advantage of this opportunity to cement our place on the global tourism stage.
“Y 15 will help bring businesses together and highlight our plans for the future to capitalise on the achievements already made – and even better, it’s free to attend.” People wanting to attend the event should register their interest at www.yorkshire.com/y15.
