FOR the perfect end to a green Christmas people are being urged to recycle their real Christmas trees as part of their blue bin collection.
Scarborough Council’s recycling and waste service is operating throughout the winter and staff will collect and recycle any trees left out for collection on scheduled blue bin days.
Donna Gaddass, a council recycling education officer, said: “You don’t need any special bags or a brown bin to use this service – people should just place their real trees next to their blue bin on collection day.
“The trees will go straight in to the back of the garden waste vehicle and will be taken to Yorwaste at Seamer Carr where they will be shredded, mixed in with the garden waste and composted on an industrial scale.
“Alternatively if you have a garden with plenty of room you could always plant your real Christmas tree where it will stay until next year.”
People are also reminded that wrapping paper and used Christmas cards can also be recycled in the blue bins and blue recycling sacks – Christmas cards can also be used to make gift tags to put on next year’s presents.
