Man eyes drive-in cinema for Scarboro’

With a dedicated cinema for Scarborough no closer to being built one man is trying to fill the void.

Ben Stonehouse is hoping to organise an American-style drive-in movie theatre for his home town.

His vision comes in two forms. Firstly, it’s a drive-in movie, providing a quality cinema experience that people can enjoy from the comfort of their own cars, with sound provided through the vehicle’s FM radio and with drinks and popcorn delivered to the vehicles window.

Alternatively, it is available as an open-air cinema in which customers can bring camping chairs, their own food and enjoy a high quality film during the summer months.

Ben, founder of Moonlight Drive-in Theatre, says the startup business is fully funded and ready to go, including a powerful 4K digital cinema projector capable of using a screen up to 30 metres wide.

He said: “We have everything in place, but we are looking for more locations for both formats. I want to take this opportunity to call out for anyone with a field, car park or other location that would take between a minimum of 50-200 cars, or would be suitable for a pop-up cinema event, to get in touch.” Anyone with suitable land can call 01723 336338 or email
