Missing persons found with help from social media

Two Scarborough missing persons - a nine-year-old girl and a woman in her forties - have been found by North Yorkshire Police in the last 24 hours with help from social media sites.

Police posted information about the two cases on their Facebook and Twitter sites just hours ago.

The two, who were unconnected, have now been found safe and well and police have thanked the public for their help.

The girl, who went missing in the Hoxton Road area, was described as wearing black leggings and a pink top.

The post on Facebook was shared 335 times and also appeared on Twitter.

The missing woman’s description was also shared and helped lead to her location.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said via Facebook: “Missing nine year old girl found safe and well! Thanks everyone for your re-tweets. It makes all the difference. Good job.”

And on the missing woman they added: “Thank you for your wonderful help - it was invaluable.”
