Scarborough lifeboat is set to benefit from sale of a new volume of Maureen Robinson’s “Rural Rambles”.

Mrs Robinson, who has just launched the 11th volume of the popular book, said she wasn’t going to do any more - but had a change of heart.

She is now planning to give all the profits from sales of this edition of the walking guide to Scarborough lifeboat’s £200,000 appeal for a new launch vessel.

Mrs Robinson explained that she had thought about bringing the series to a close because her husband Michael is not able to walk as far as he used to.

She said: “He has been a tower of strength throughout the series and we’ve done every walk together.

“We’ve really enjoyed doing it. He still provides the transport to the starting point, but now I walk with my neighbour Martin Bishop.”

Mrs Robinson added that she would like to carry on and perhaps do one more book at Easter.

She would also like some feedback from readers on whether they would prefer the volumes to feature very local walks or ones further afield.

You can write to her c/o The Scarborough News, 17-23 Aberdeen Walk, YO11 1BB.

Rural Rambles is available for £3 from Crag and Moor at 38 Victoria Road.

Mrs Robinson’s “Weekly Walk” is featured in The Scarborough News every week.
