UNIVERSITY student Eleanor Hardie has been crowned Miss Scarborough 2012.
Eleanor, 20, was chosen from 15 stunning finalists during a glittering ceremony at the Scarborough Fair Collection, Lebberston, on Saturday night.
The Mr Scarborough title was scooped by football and PE coach Sam Wallace, 19, of Trafalgar Street West.
Eleanor will now go on to represent Scarborough at the Miss England final at the end of June.
She said: “I feel overwhelmed. I never thought I would win because there were so many beautiful girls in the competition.”
Eleanor, who is in her first year of an environmental sciences degree, is originally from Cropston in Leicestershire.
She said: “I feel like Scarborough has become my home and it’s exciting to have a role in the community now. I really love the town and I’m looking forward to being involved in local events.”
Eleanor, who was sponsored by the Eastern Paradise Indian restaurant, added that she had enjoyed meeting all the other girls and that everyone had been very supportive.
Mr Scarborough said: “I’ve really enjoyed the contest. It’s been great meeting everyone.”
Runners up were Bethany Hedgecock in second place and Abbie Johnson in third.
The Miss Charity award went to Shaye Jordan, Best Dress and Miss Eco went to Bethany Hedgecock, and Miss Popularity went to Stephanie Atha, who received 899 text votes and will be fast-tracked to the Miss England semi final.
The event was organised by Diane Yalezo, who judged the contest along with Evening News editor Ed Asquith, Jane Thomas of the Scarborough Fair Collection, Miss Scarborough 2011 Leanne Wilford, Mr Scarborough 2011 Gavin Fitton, and Shadow from Shadow Hair Salon in Scarborough.
Diane said: “I’m thrilled with the winner. She’s beautiful and I think she’ll do really well in Miss England and hopefully bring the crown back to Scarborough.”
She thanked all the entrants for taking part, the venue and all the sponsors for their support.
Diane added that all entrants had to live or study in a YO postcode to be eligible to take part.
As well as the coveted title of Miss Scarborough 2012, Eleanor has also won a number of prizes donated by local businesses.
These include a £500 stay at the Cliffemount Hotel in Runswick Bay, a year’s free membership at Compass gym, a gown from Desire in Filey, a year of hairdressing for public appearance from Shadow, beauty treatments from Spangle, a photo portfolio from Hollier photographers of Filey, sash and crown from the Scarborough Evening News and a bouquet from Natalilies of Hunmanby.
