Nominate your local young hero

THE countdown is on for entries into a special awards ceremony - and the Evening News is appealing for readers to nominate deserving youngsters in the town.

The Borough’s Big Thank You Awards are back and aim to recognise the cream of Scarborough’s talent.

Featuring a host of categories, the awards honour the people in our community who make such a difference to the everyday lives of others without any reward.

Do you know a child in the town who has gone out of their way to perform a heroic deed or has shown great community spirit?

Is there a club or group who have performed fantastically well during the last year and done themselves and the town proud?

If so, there are a host of award categories for you to put them forward for in the ceremony.

The Young Achiever Award is looking for children who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to succeed in their chosen area.

Perhaps there is a dance or acting group who have taken part in some terrific shows this year?

If so, then you can nominate them for a Performing Arts award.

Other categories include Good Neighbour, Courage over Adversity and Care and Support in the Community.

So if there is someone out there, don’t hesitate to put them forward and into the spotlight they deserve.

The deadline for entries is February 4 2011.

Scarborough mayor Cllr Hazel Lynskey has called on people in the town to show their support and help give something back to the people who give so much.

She added: “I hope we can help reward the unsung heroes in our area for their tireless work.

“There are so many people in the borough of Scarborough who do so much but unfortunately nobody knows anything about their fine work.

“So if anyone does know someone who is doing a lot of very good voluntary work then I really encourage them to put their name forward and give them the recognition they deserve.”

All nominees will be invited to a presentation evening at Scarborough Spa Complex on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

The awards are again supported by Riverside Motors, Seamer.
