Letter: Traditional South Bay is loved by visitors

Scarborough's seafront can bask in the accolade of 'UK's Most Romantic Walk,' yet if the borough council's 'vision' for the town had been in place, that lovely walk along South Beach would be blighted by tons of boulders.

Across Foreshore Road, instead of the Futurist theatre and attractive St Nicholas Gardens, would be the thundering of a roller coaster, and the regular slamming of a 50ft tower. How romantic! How incongruous!

Scarborough is a very popular seaside destination town, with its own North-South divide.

The North Bay has been taken over with an ever-growing list of water park, restaurants, cabins, pub, cinema. Let’s add Flamingo Land to that, and keep the borough council’s hands off South Bay, so that visitors can still find and enjoy the traditional Scarborough that they love.

My accolades go to Coastival, which is a credit to our town and all those who participate. The parade along Foreshore, followed by the Song of Leviathan in the Spa Sun Court, was simply inspiring! A huge well done and thank you to all involved in an exceptional weekend for Scarborough. Long may it continue.
