Drivers are urged to plan before travelling on the A64 due to Highways England carrying out road improvements overnight between Scarborough and York.

To enable the work to be done as quickly as possible, there will be some overnight closures of some parts of the A64, with clearly signed diversions in place, and some use of temporary traffic lights.

They will result in a smoother road surface, along with better footpaths, road markings and drainage, and a renewed safety barrier which is crucial if accidents happen.

Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said: “Our improvements along the A64 over the next few months mean people have better and safer better journeys on this important road between York and Scarborough.

“We’re carrying out the work overnight when there is least traffic so disruption is kept to a minimum for drivers and residents.”

Three improvement schemes on the A64 will benefit the 11,000 drivers who use this road every day.

The improvements will be completed by the end of April.

The work will be carried out:

-Work will start this evening until the end of March between 8pm and 6am on weeknights and between 8pm and 10am at the weekends between Collinsons Lane and Rillington crossroads.

-From Monday March 27 for three weeks between Hopgrove and Stockton between 8pm and 6am.

-From late March/early April to end of April between 8pm and 6am between Scotchman Lane and the start of the dual-carriageway at Whitwell.
