Care home residents’ joy at gazebo gift after vandalism almost ruins plans for family visits

Residents of a Thornton-le-Dale care home are finally able to see their families despite vandals almost jeopardising their plans.

A new gazebo had been set up and decorated at The Hall Care home so that garden visits could be arranged by families separated by Coronavirus, but was destroyed at the end of July by youths who were seen running off into the woods.

The care home posted on Facebook at the time; "Our residents and staff have been in lockdown for five months and were so looking forward to being able to open up the garden for these special visits, how disgraceful that this has been put in jeopardy."

Not wanting to let the residents down, the care home owners ordered another gazebo. JTF Mega Discount Warehouse stepped in and donated a replacement.

A post on the home's Facebook page reads; “Our new gazebo would have cost us £179.99. Some of you have kindly offered to raise funds for us, we don’t need this, however your generosity has been overwhelming. If any of you would like to help our nominated charity ‘Dementia Forward’ whom we work very closely with to support people living with dementia both in our home and across North Yorkshire, please do this using the link here: https://www.dementiaforward.org.uk/“Let us see if together we can raise the £179.99 for them at a time when fund raising has had to cease because of Covid-19.”
