Plans are now under way to hold the Celebrate Social Care event in October 2021.

Organiser Mike Padgham, owner of Saint Cecilia’s Care Group which runs four care homes in Scarborough, said: “It will be a fantastic event, truly honouring those amazing people in social care who, alongside their colleagues in the NHS, have performed miracles helping the country to fight Covid-19.”

The first Celebrate Social Care was held in October last year and attracted around 500 people from social care to Scarborough Spa.

Mr Padgham said: “We were absolutely gutted to have to cancel the second Celebrate Social Care event this autumn.

"But it is out of our control and now we are turning our attention to hosting a bigger and better event in 2021.”

North Yorkshire County Council has agreed to be the principal supporter of next October’s event, which will again be held at Scarborough Spa.

“By the time we get to next autumn, hopefully with coronavirus behind us, we shall be long overdue an enormous celebration and we plan to hold one,” Mr Padgham said.

Last year's evening raised £2,000, which was split between Saint Catherine’s Hospice, Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Forward.
