Mr Brown said: “I have had my beard since the 1960s and have now decided it is time to Brave the Shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Many people will never have known me without a beard, including my children and my wife, as I was in my early 20s the last time I was clean shaven and I will turn 78 on Sunday, August 30 – the day I have nominated to shave my beard off.

“Please support me by donating what you can as Macmillan help so many people, my family included, and this way I can do my bit.”
