His co-workers say “he’s more than just a colleague, he’s a friend to all” – and Eamonn’s been singled out for special praise at a prestigious awards event.

A familiar face to thousands of customers on the company’s buses between Leeds, York and the Yorkshire Coast, Eamonn is a Team Leader based at the bus firm’s depot in Malton.

A delighted Eamonn said: ‘I’m really happy to have been recognised – I think my colleagues see how I go above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly, and if they have any problems they can come and see me.

“I’ve been here for 21 years, and my favourite part of the job is seeing our customers happy.

"I’ve got to know the regulars really well, and when everyone else is happy, I’m happy.’

Judges at parent company Transdev’s Amazing Awards were so impressed by the natural warmth and pride in the job that shone through in Eamonn’s nomination for the Lifetime Star award that they gave him a Highly Commended rating, placing him among the top two from 980 bus drivers across Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The good news didn’t stop there for team Coastliner – as Malton-based Billy Crute also received a Highly Commended certificate in the Driver of the Year category.

Judges praised Billy’s naturally down to earth manner, sharing jovial banter with regular travellers while giving a friendly welcome to new customers and making time to answer questions and put customers at ease.

Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “Eamonn is one of our longest serving drivers and as a Team Leader with many years of experience on the road, provides the inspiration and example for others to aspire to.

"He provides a first-class welcome to the many regular customers and visitors who travel on our Coastliner service to city, country and coast.

“We are blessed with many long-serving colleagues, but our Lifetime Stars are singled out for their consistent performance and continued efforts, day after day, to offer their best – they really are the backbone of our company.”

Presented at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, Transdev’s Amazing Awards were attended by more than130 nominees and partners – each winning their place on the shortlist from a total of 1,250 people who keep the wheels turning safely each day from Preston to the Yorkshire Coast.

Comedy star Ted Robbins, famed as villainous Den Perry from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights and for roles in Holby City, Doctors, Brookside and Coronation Street, guest hosted the event alongside Master of Ceremonies and Yorkshire newsreader, BBC Look North’s Harry Gration.
