The listing says that scheme is anticipated to be handed over for tenants fit-out in early 2021. It does not list rents for the units but says this are available on application.

Scarborough Council's planning committee approved a revised application from developers Benchmark Leisure last month. It was the third time the development had been granted permission, the first was in 2015.

Benchmark Leisure have said opening is anticipated for late next year or early 2021.

However following the planning approval, the leader of Scarborough Borough Council, Labour's Steve Siddons said: Just because the latest plans have been approved does not mean this cinema will be built soon, if at all.

“This is the third time the developer has promised progress.

“Personally, I have always said that an out-of-town site is the wrong place, especially for a council declaring a Climate Emergency.

“National planning guidelines say the same.

“Council plans for the North Bay are being reviewed. We still anticipate a cinema soon in Scarborough.”

In response, Cllr Derek Bastiman, the council’s Conservative leader the party's councillors were “disappointed” Cllr Siddons was not more supportive of the planning decision.

Cllr Bastiman said: “Clearly the 14 members who supported the long-awaited plan have a better realisation of the benefits of the North Bay site, that or they understand the contractual agreement with Benchmark makes this a very difficult situation to withdraw from.”

He added that major plans are often susceptible to delays.
