Fight outside Filey takeaway over wearing of face masks - man was punched, another arrested

A fight broke out at a Filey takeaway - reportedly over new face mask rules.

Police on patrol in Filey intervened when the violent row involving two men happened outside the takeaway on Murray Street at around 10pm on Friday.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "It is believed to have involved a dispute between the customers about the wearing of face masks as part of Covid-19 precautions.

"A 38-year-old man from Filey was arrested and later received a caution for threatening and abusive behaviour to provoke unlawful violence.

"A 56-year-old man from Doncaster suffered minor injuries after being punched.

"The investigation has been completed."
