Flood alert for east coast of Yorkshire between Whitby and Filey

A flood alert has been issued for the East Coast between Whitby and Filey.

The Environment Agency says overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of strong onshore winds between 9.15am and 12:15pm today.

Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads around Sandside and Foreshore Road North in Scarborough.

The Environment Agency says its incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast and urged people to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
