The Whitby Sixth Form student had been predicted to receive three A*s in his A-levels, but this summer’s marking fiasco saw his results downgraded to A*BB meaning he lost his anticipated place at Durham University.

A change of heart by the government saw his grades amended, but Durham, inundated with students in similar situations, were unsure whether he would be able to take his place this year or if he would have to wait until 2021.

Natalie Brown, Jayden’s mum contacted the Whitby Gazette to tell them what had happened, she said: “I just thought you’d like to know the final result for Jayden at Durham, he is going this year, in two weeks, and it looks like he’s got into St Cuthbert’s College accommodation. All very last minute but we’re very pleased.”

Jayden, who will be studying for a BA in politics, philosophy and economics, is looking forward to his new adventure. He said; “I’m very nervous, but it’s just the kind of nerves you expect when you go to university, meeting new people, that kind of thing. It’s not stressful like it was on results day.

“I’ve got into my preferred college, I just don’t have my preferred choice of room, but I might not have got that anyway, it might be a bit of a way to some of the lecture halls, but that’s okay.”
