The team from Squeeky Clean Scarborough have been donning personal protective equipment, then going out to sanitise and steam clean all around Scarborough and Filey.

From bus seating areas, information boards, railings to traffic lights and bins - they have been trying to make sure all are cleaned regularly.

“We’re all in this together now,” said founder of the firm William Haylett. “This is something we can do to help.”

William started the business six years ago cleaning carpets and upholstery, and has since extended his services to include jet washing.

Last year he and his team launched a mission to clean up the town and began cleaning brickwork, paths and bins, as well as removing bird droppings and graffiti.

The response to their hard work and their most recent efforts to tackle the spread of coronavirus have received a massive response from residents on social media who have applauded what they are trying to achieve.

One person posted on their Facebook page: “You guys are an inspiration to us all. Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough.”

Another posted: “Fantastic job, thanks lads.”

One woman even set up an online fundraising page to pay William and his colleagues back for what they have done, but William has said he would rather the money is given to NHS staff.

But, he has warned that cleaning alone will not stop the spread of the virus, and people need to heed the official advice about isolation if they are showing symptoms of the disease and social distancing.“People have got to start listening,” he said.
