Scarborough trio Gareth Davies, Donna Loveland and Jean Dixon on Queen's Birthday Honours List

Her birthday honours list - which was postponed so that it could recognise those who played crucial roles in the first few months of the pandemic - includes several people from our area.

Scarborough Sea Cadets instructor Gareth Davies has been awarded an MBE for his services to the area.

As a full-time army reservist and specialist driving instructor, he has been teaching military personnel and reservists, training those who have helped to relieve the distribution of hospital equipment and also training those operating the many Covid-19 testing stations across the country.

At the same time, he has been motivating sea cadets with creative online videos and teaching sessions.

Donna Loveland has received a British Empire Medal for her tireless fundraising and water safety work in memory of her brother.

Andrew McGeown, 32, lost his life in the North Sea near the Spa at Scarborough’s South Bay after he dived in to try to rescue his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Arnold, in February 2015.

She set up a fund in his name and has since raised over £45,000 which has paid for thousands of local children to learn how to stay safe in the water.

She has also been working to promote water safety and the dangers of the coast through local awareness campaigns, marketing and school visits.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance fundraiser and ambassador Jean Dixon has been honoured with a British Empire Medal for her sterling work.

The pensioner is well known in Scarborough and ran businesses from Scarborough Market for over 57 years.

When she retired, she decided to take on an empty stall and raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as a volunteer and has since collected over £750,000 for the life-saving service.

Clay Pigeon Shooter Paul Chaplow, from Malton, has also been given a British Empire Medal for his services to the sport.
