Staithes Coastguard respond to an unusual call out

Staithes Coastguard are used to helping those in trouble at sea, but today they have responded to a different kind of request for assistance.

A message on the Staithes Coastguard Facebook page read:

"HM Coastguard are Category 1 responders and as such are often called to assist other agencies and services during emergency planning and preparedness.

"Today, however we were asked if we could assist East Cleveland Good Neighbours Support group to deliver meals and food parcels to people in East Cleveland due to adverse weather conditions.

"Four Coastguard Rescue Officers in two vehicles were able to assist and in total over 60 meals were delivered to people in the community.

"As a service we are always happy to assist in the community and assist other emergency services when required dependent on operational demand.

"FOR COASTAL EMERGENCIES DIAL 999 AND ASK FOR THE COASTGUARD."
