A letter backing our campaign has been received from Kevin & Jeanie Carson of Cafe Niche on Aberdeen Walk. Kevin wrote:

My wife and I are really pleased that there has been further discussion regarding the support of small local independent businesses in the town. After working for the NHS for many years my wife and I wanted to set our own cafe business in the town, it was on our ‘bucket list’ for semi-retirement and we both enjoy cooking good home cooked dishes.

So we started on this venture and opened Cafe Niche Aberdeen Walk. We have run our cafe for the past four years and have been building an increasing local following, along with many visitors visiting the cafe while on holiday.

During the year, along with other independent businesses we have suffered due to the pandemic on many levels, not just financially.

The sadness is that this is normally a busy time for us during the run-up to Christmas with lots of interesting home cooked dishes on our ‘Winter Warmer’ menu, along with the selling of homemade Christmas cakes, puddings ,pies and our Cafe Christmas raffle, raising funds for our chosen charities.

This time of the year is exciting for us and others who visit the cafe. Due to the second lockdown this has had to be put on hold until the lockdown is hopefully lifted at the beginning of December.

We also feel strongly that we have to work together to create a High Street that is visited and run by locals and equally supported by locals and outsiders.

There is nothing more appealing and exciting seeing lots of small, independent businesses not on the high street, all offering different products.
