However, one occasion became even more special for a Pickering couple thanks to a surprise marriage proposal.

Matt Roberts proposed to his partner of three years Lauren Holmes just as the couple stepped into their new property at David Wilson Homes’ Heather Croft development.

Having planned the surprise proposal for nearly four months, Matt was able to call on some secret help from the sales team at Heather Croft, who granted him early access to his new home – allowing him to create a romantic setting before popping the question.

Matt, a sales advisor at Barratt Homes, met Lauren, a veterinary nurse from Amotherby, three years ago when he took his Labrador for a check-up.

The couple have a 15 month old daughter called Violet, who they hope will be a flower girl when they get married.

Matt said: “We were really excited to move into our new home, but I wanted to make the day extra-special and finish the year on a high.

“It was certainly nerve-racking making sure everything was in place for Lauren’s arrival, but the sales team were a real help in making sure my plans remained under wraps.

“Thankfully, she said yes, which made for the perfect start to life in our new home.”

Dawnie Carrigan-Hammond, senior sales advisor at the Heather Croft development, said: “We’re always pleased to see the smiles on people’s faces when they pick up the keys to their new home, but Matt and Lauren’s day was extra special.”
