Whitby Krampus Run 10th anniversary - here's what's going on around town

Successfully introducing the alpine folklore tradition to the UK with a unique interpretation that includes local myths and legends, the event has become a fixed favourite in Whitby’s festive calendar and has reached national and international recognition.
Created in 2013 out of one of Decadent Drawings’ alternative art sessions, Whitby Krampus Run has rapidly grown in size from a few friends to a public event in 2017, to what it is now.

Hide AdAlways creatively adapting, changing the format for this year’s event – which is on Saturday December 7 and Sunday December 8 – is quite different with appearances and performances and processions to include the whole of the town, instead of the focus being on one main parade.
The Chapel On The Hill will be Whitby Krampus Run’s HQ for the Saturday, with some stalls activities and official merchandise available.
Hetty and Betty on Baxtergate is hosting Where The Wild Things Are afternoon teas and entertainment for families – see how to book details on their Facebook page.
Other events include:
- a Krampus treasure hunt
- a street entertainer
- author book signing at The Whitby Book Shop
- drumming performances from The Krampus Krumpettes, where all are encouraged to bring noisy instruments, 3.30pm at the Whalebones for sunset

Hide Ad- and the return of the spectacular fire performance from Mister Fox at Dock End, 4.45pm.
All in aid of raising funds for Whitby and District Disablement Action Group.
Sunday sees a collaboration with Whitby Abbey and Whitby YHA as the Krampus Run enter its grounds.
Later in the day there will be fun with the Reindeer Games around Cholmley House ending with an LED torchlit procession – all welcome so bring your lights.

Hide AdMusical entertainment at Whitby Brewery with Galdorcraeft and Inkubus Sukkubus is sold out but there is an extra event party going on at The Crafty Cove.
Sunday sees Westenra play with a closing ceremony from Tengu Taiko Drummers.
A souvenir programme sponsored by Whitby Sea Salt will be available from Whitby Krampus Run HQ and shops around town.
