Whitby’s SPAR Stakesby to open 24 hours a day to help NHS staff

The store, which also operates as a filling station, will be open 24 hours a day and operate a hatch service only for essentials overnight.

Assistant store manager, Clare Walker, said the store had changed their hours in response to the coronavirus crisis: “We are open 24 hours from today to help NHS staff in case they need fuel or emergency items during the night.”

“We will be serving through the hatch from 9pm-6am and open as normal from 6am-9pm.”

No alcohol will be served through the hatch.

Stocks at the store are gradually returning to normal as regular deliveries enable staff to restock shelves, although pasta, rice and toilet rolls are still limited.

The increase in hours has led to the creation of two new temporary positions, one of which has yet to be filled, prospective applicants are urged to contact the store as soon as possible.
