School children who were thrilled to be given the day off school were among the crowds who flocked to Scarborough’s Foreshore Road for the annual Pancake Day skipping celebrations.
And seafront businesses said they were doing a roaring trade.
Mayoress Cllr Sue Backhouse said: “It’s fantastic for businesses and for the town. It’s an important tradition and we need to hold on to it.
It’s important for kids to know about their traditions, and it’s about building friendships and relationships too.”
