Pizza Express has been granted a licence to open in Sandside.

The chain restaurant group is taking over the X-Chainstore to open a two storey eatery on the harbourside.

A number of conditions were imposed on the applicant, including:

• No tables and chairs to be outside the premises on 26 December each year (i.e. Boxing Day)

• At all other times, the outdoor seating area to be a rectangle shape no larger than 2 metres deep with a maximum of 10 tables in the area.

• Staff should be extra vigilant about customers using glassware in the vicinity of the Juliet balcony when the doors are open to avoid any glasses being accidentally being dropped onto the pavement below and there should be signage to warn customers to take care with glassware in these circumstances.

• Menus should list smaller measures of alcohol to encourage sensible drinking

The license allows the restaurant to open until 12.30am seven days a week.
