Plastic dinosaurs in place of geology

Scarborough’s Rotunda Museum’s website invites the reader to ‘learn about the fascinating geology of the Yorkshire Coast’. In the museum on the ground floor where there used to be a fine display of geological specimens - crystals, fossils and the like - with explanatory labels, there is now a gift shop.

Instead of geology the visitor is offered keyrings and plastic dinosaurs.

William Smith, ‘Father of English Geology’, who played a key role in the founding of the Rotunda, would not be impressed.
