Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious single-vehicle collision on the A169 at Saltergate Bank near Pickering.

It occurred at about 4.50pm on Friday August 1 when a silver Renault Modus car was travelling towards Whitby and left the carriageway on its nearside.

It went down an embankment before travelling approximately 150 metres and coming to rest by a tree.

Firefighters were alerted to the scene to assist the operation.

All three people in the car – a woman driver and a girl and boy in the passenger seats - suffered injuries and were airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The most seriously injured was the 57-year-old driver from Coventry. She is in a critical condition.

North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group is appealing for anyone who may have seen the silver Renault Modus car prior to the collision or anyone who witnessed the incident itself.
