POLICE officers have brought Christmas cheer to members of the community by donating gifts.
Organisers of Operation Taiwan asked their colleagues to donate presents to go towards a collection for Scarborough Cambridge Centre’s Women’s Community Project.
The gifts will go towards women who are participating in the project and their children.
Staff from North Yorkshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons units asked colleague to put aside a gift if they bought any “three for two” or “buy one get one free” offers.
They appealed for items such as toiletries, books, toys, hats, gloves, gift vouchers and selection boxes. Gifts were parcelled up and marked as suitable for a boy, girl or female adult.
Liz Race, Cambridge Centre Women’s Community Project co-ordinator, said: “There were presents for more than 30 children. The response was overwhelming and we’re extremely grateful. It makes such a big difference and seeing the children open their presents is magical.”
