Police say the body found floating in Peasholm Lake yesterday is that of a 34-year-old local man.
However North Yorkshire Police say the tragic man’s identity may not be made public until next week.
Officers are still trying to establish how the man ended up in the water at Scarborough’s famous Peasholm Park.
A passer-by made the harrowing discovery just after 11.30am on Wednesday after they spotted the body floating on the surface of the picturesque lake.
Ambulance crews were called to recover the man.
Police have ruled out foul play, with a spokesperson stating: “There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surround this incident, and investigations remain ongoing.”
