"March 23rd marked the moment our world changes and sometimes felt as though it would never be the same again, but I could not let this festive season pass without acknowledging how everyone in the borough has pulled together to get us through 2020.

"We have lost people, friends and acquaintances have been ill or lost their jobs, had financial problems and heartaches, but we have also seen the best of people.

"Council staff working every hour possible to ensure the business grants and loans reach those most in need. Help for those homeless to ensure they were not left on the streets, businesses keeping open in the most difficult circumstances, essential services kept operational in spite of staff off work with the virus, and people just being kinder to each other.

"We will each look back on this time differently based on our experiences, but one thing we must do together is build back our communities better.

"The Council will play its part in that. We have the prospect of millions of pounds of funding to regenerate our high streets, improve our street scenes and create the prosperity we so desperately need to move us forward from this terrible time.

"Have a happy, healthy and peaceful break."
